EDUCATION

Umpire Accreditation

The National Umpiring Accreditation Scheme is conducted under the auspices of Cricket Australia, which is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of cricket match official accreditation. The scheme is based on Officiating Principles developed by the Australian Sports Commission.

Community Officiating

Cricket Australia's Community Officiating Accreditation Program replaces the old Level One Umpire Accreditation course. It is an entry level course designed for:

• Those interested in becoming cricket umpires on a regular paid basis for the first time

• Parents who, from time to time, are required to officiate in junior competitions

• Teachers who supervise and officiate in school competitions; and

• Anyone wishing to expand their knowledge of the game

The accreditation program is conducted in two parts:

• Part One - a knowledge based section completed on-line; and

• Part Two - a practical section covering on-field technique and application of the knowledge gained in Part One followed by on-field assessment in a match environment.

The cost of the program is expected to be $40 which will include access to the on-line section of the course as well as additional resources required to complete the course.

Representative Officiating (Level Two Accreditation)

Cricket Australia's Representative Officiating Accreditation Program which replaces the old Level Two Umpire Accreditation course. It has been developed to meet the training and education needs of umpires who officiate in competitions affiliated with State Cricket Associations. These umpires may be:

• Community Officiating umpires seeking advancement,

• First year umpires seeking formal accreditation, or

• Experienced umpires wishing to update.

It aims to provide umpires officiating at all levels below first class with an appropriate level of competency. The program has a theoretical component, a series of workshops designed to explore the skills and competencies required by match officials and finally an on field assessment of the applicant's ability to apply the theoretical and practical material under match conditions. This course is being redesigned in order bring the material into line with the current Laws of Cricket and ensure application these Laws and techniques are appropriate to the modern game.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be recognised through the awarding of a certificate and ID card, and your name will be registered on the Cricket Australia and the Australian Sports Commission data bases of accredited umpires.

The Representative Officiating program is offered to umpires who are currently umpiring in an official competition affiliated to a State Cricket Association at an all up cost expected to be in area of $100.

The current course is book based course and is self-paced. The redesigned course will be a mixture of on-line learning, practical techniques enhanced by video, demonstrations and role plays as well as some book based learning.

The competency based component of this program is assessed by an Accreditation Supervisor appointed by the local State Umpire Manager.
