About Us

In 2015 Clubs with teams in the VTCA competition and grounds located in the South East/Bayside regions of Melbourne decided to support a Cricket Victoria initiative to create their own stand-alone competition.

Cricket South Bayside (CSB) was formed.

CSB oversees a men’s turf competition which plays Saturdays and Sundays, a women’s competition played on Sundays on turf and synthetic pitches, a Juniors competition (CSB Juniors) and an All Girl’s Cricket Competition (AGCC).

CSB provides umpires for the Men’s Turf and Women’s Competitions and CSB Juniors.

CSB NEWS

Joining the CSB Umpires Panel

Everyone is welcome to join the CSB Umpires Panel. Whether you are an experienced umpire or would like to join us and be trained to become an umpire.

We have a strong and highly credited training program and all new umpires will be given every assistance and support to enable them to join to start and then enjoy their journey with us as an umpire. We have many umpires who commenced this journey with us and have now moved onto umpiring in other competitions, including Premier Cricket.

We welcome enquiries and applications from females and males. We will ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable time with us.

How to join us

These are the steps necessary to become an umpire with CSB.

1. Review the information under this section of the CSB website

2. Contact Graeme Webber at: umpires@southernbayside.com.au

3. Complete the simple documentation to enable you to join, this includes:

  • Registration form

  • Complete a Working With Children Check (free)

  • A CSB Volunteer Form that sums up your agreement to meet our conditions and also provide details of your banking details for payment of fees.

4. If you’re a new umpire, complete the simple umpire community accreditation offered by Cricket Victoria and attend training sessions, as required

5. Attend Umpires Meetings regularly - these are held to improve everyone’s skills and to enjoy the company of your fellow umpires

6. Stay informed about any developments regarding any changes to fixtures, game conditions or Government health restrictions.

Placement of New Umpires

The CSB will place you in those competitions where it is considered that your best on field experience can occur. An experienced mentor umpire will be on hand to assist you in those circumstances to help you to become familiar with playing conditions and help you gain confidence.

Umpire Training & Pathway

Attendance at umpire meetings and dedicated training sessions is very important. Meetings are held throughout the season - the first sessions are very important.

Once you have been registered, accredited and have attended the necessary training sessions with CSB you will be considered for appointment to games.

Applicants new to umpiring

The CSB will help you every step of the way.

Attending and participating at training sessions and meetings will enable you to gain knowledge about how to better understand the Laws of Cricket, local rules and game management. It will enable you to meet umpiring colleagues and develop friendships.

The CSB has a pathway program for all male and female umpires. Once a new, less experienced umpire has gained confidence, we will work with him or her to assess their readiness for the next stage in their development and for placement in a higher grade with CSB. For instance, you could be placed initially in CSB Juniors or the Women’s Competition and then progress to Men’s Turf on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

More Experienced Applicants

Those who have umpired previously or who have a strong recent experience playing cricket will be placed in grades appropriate to their skills and experience after discussion with the CSB Umpires Managers
